How to prepare for family photo shoot on the beach

Koh Samui beaches offer breathtaking scenery and stunning backdrops for photo sessions that will preserve memories for a lifetime. From picturesque sunsets to white sandy shores, the options for beautiful photos are endless. As a seasoned photographer, I understand how to make the beach photo experience enjoyable and effortless for clients.

Here are some tips to prepare for a family beach photoshoot:

1.Choose a Location

When planning for a family photo shoot on the beach, it's important to consider the best location for the shoot. Usually, the best beaches for photography on Koh Samui are located 30 minutes drive from most touristic areas (Chaweng or Lamai), and, believe me, they are worth to travel. The photos taken on the wild beach gives that special feeling of unity between human and nature.

2. Timing is key

Plan your photoshoot for the best lighting conditions, either early in the morning or late in the day when the sun is low.
Morning session is good for families with small kids.
The best time for sunset beach photo session is usually an hour or two before sunset. This is when the lighting is most flattering and beautiful. It's also a great time to take advantage of the warmer temperatures, calmer waters, and softer colors that come with the setting sun.

3.Choose Clothing

Choose light and airy clothing that will be comfortable and complementary to the beach setting. One-colored clothes will look good on the beach. White, all shades of blue, pink, beige, black - all these colors will complement the beach setting. Please avoid khaki and green color.

4. Hydrate and protect

Drink plenty of water and bring along sunscreen to protect your skin from the sun's harmful rays. Also don't forget about mosquito protection.

5. Let the kids be kids

Encourage the kids to play and have fun on the beach, this will create natural and candid moments that will make the photo session even more special.
Bring along some snacks and drinks to keep everyone energized during the session. Be prepared to take some breaks and allow the kids to take a break from posing if they get tired or bored. Ask the children to help with the posing and give them some choices so they feel involved in the session.
